Time Travelers Wife Review

This seems like a good movie, though I have to admit it may not be to the liking of many guys since this is technically a romance movie ( I think). I can’t imagine what it would be like to travel back and forth through time, especially if it was random like it is with the husband in this movie. Oddly enough though, he isn’t exactly the main character since the movie is entitled time travelers wife, and hence the review is really about her.

Some cynics may say most women wouldn’t be this loyal after having a husband that basically ditches her 24/7 and at random intervals, and maybe they are right. It is hard for anyone to stay loyal to a spouse that is gone for days, weeks, or even months, without ever knowing when they will come back. Still, these people do in fact endure and wait for their beloved it come home, which I guess is what this movie is about.

I remember reading on a Dick Masterson blog entry once about how he went on and on about how men are better than women (that’s what Dick Masterson is all about) and this one guy said something that I thought was pretty harsh which was that he felt that any cheating wife of a deployed soldier should be tried and executed for being traitorous, or something. Never mind that he never mentions giving out the same punishment out to the guy who she is cheating with.

And that brings me to the next point of this time travelers wife review, the double standard. It seems after all this time, after all the changes this world and humanity has gone through, that old ideas and so called principles still Die Hard, or Live Free. In the case of the double standard for women, well it probably still exists though luckily we won’t actually pass laws or worse, execute laws based on this double standard, well intentionally at least. Today if you’re caught cheating on your spouse well, there’s no actual illegality to it that I know of (at least in New York State) but you sure as hell will have one really pissed off spouse. They also make it so that if you kill your spouse that you just caught cheating, supposedly you get off easier because it’s considered a crime of passion is the technical term, of course I never understood that but people have many ways to justify death I suppose.

Now I don’t want to spoil the plot of time travelers wife in this review and of course I haven’t seen it yet but one thing is for certain, it is about the emotional struggles that a man and woman has to go through to maintain or destroy this so called double standard we all have in this society, the toll it has on people, and how a couple’s love can endure even the most severe of traumas (yes yes I know it’s corny but hey so is Star Trek with their time travel save humanity plots and that was pretty awesome)!

The Scoop On The District 9 Movie

Well, just got back from watching the midnight showing of District 9, and all I got is a meh. The movie District 9 wasnt a bad movie by any stretch, but I think I was expecting too much out of it. I’ve been having that problem lately with a lot of movies that I see, like the latest harry potter. That one as well didnt really do it for me. But District 9 definitely had its moments.

Now, to start off, I wont have any spoilers in this District 9 Movie review. I just want to give you a heads up at what you can expect from District 9. I thought the acting was quite good, and the characters were definitely believable. One thing I cant stand in a movie is the same thing that can ruin a movie: bad acting. Or just simply casting the wrong actors. District 9 did not fail in that regards. Good acting.

The plot… Well the plot for the district 9 movie wasnt bad either. I dont want to go into too much detail and ruin the movie, but it does kinda keep you guessing at what will happen next. Not super unpredictable though, and it doesnt really keep you on the edge of your seat. The plot in district 9 keeps you intrigued just enough for you to keep watching, and not walk out of the theater.

Now the part I liked best about the district 9 movie was the display of alien weaponry. There are some sweet guns that start getting used around the middle of the movie, and the power behind them is insane. Lets just say that there isnt a whole lot left of whatever gets fired at.

And the special effects for district 9 were spot on, in my opinion. The aliens looked real and whenever they displayed the alien technology, it was pretty cool as well. It does get pretty gruesome at times, which is probably the reasoning for the R rating for District 9. And they do drop the f bomb quite a bit as well, including the aliens. That part actually made me chuckle a bit.

Overall, I would have to say that District 9 is a good movie. But I gotta be honest and say that I didnt walk away awe struck. I guess I have to be fair to District 9 though, as I really havent been blown away by a movie in quite some time. If you’re looking to see a movie this weekend with a more serious tone, but still with some action, then I would recommend District 9. I hope you have enjoyed this District 9 movie review, and let me know what you think of District 9.
