Y.E. Yang is the newest PGA Champion! What’s so remarkable about that? Well in the one sport where fans almost always root for the favorite and against the underdog (especially when the favorite is none other than THE Tiger Woods) I don’t think anyone is upset that Yang got the win. On his second the the last shot, from 206 yards Yang got his ball about 10-15 feet from the hole. His birdie putt was good and now hundreds of people all over the world are googling “Y E Yang.” Everyone wants to know who took Tiger Woods down the the wire and emerged victorious.
Y.E. Yang is a 37-year-old South Korean who even many golf fans know very little about. He turned pro in 2004 so he has a few years under his belt. After his down to the finish win today people all across the world are going to know his name because upsetting Tiger Woods will make international news. Y. E. Yang must be on cloud 9 right now. I bet he never dreamed a more perfect ending to the PGA Championship round. I am certain that South Korea has erupted in celebration and Korean parents will be naming their children after him now. I wonder if Wikipedia is prepared for the flood of traffic to Mr. Yang’s page?
My hat is off to you Y.E. Yang. Honestly I wasn’t expecting you to win. But did so in amazing fashion and I admire that. So enjoy spending the PGA championship prize money. The PGA championship purse is nothing to sneeze at. I believe the 2009 PGA Championship Purse: $7.2 million — nothing to complain about in this tough economy!
Tiger Woods seemed off today. He is still working the kinks out of his game. I know we all just expected him to recovery from the surgery super quickly and be right back to being the greatest golfer most of us have ever seen. But let’s cut him some slack, coming in second isn’t exactly a horrible finish. I have no doubt Tiger will get back to his amazing golf playing self in due time. I would rather have him do it right and not burn himself out or have another injury. Tiger Woods is important to the sport of golf. Thousands of more people tune in when Tiger is in the hunt for a trophy. Even people who do not like the game of golf or follow the sport enjoy watching Tiger Woods play. He has a way of captivating people, he has grace on the green and fans and non-fans alike cannot seem to get enough of Tiger Woods.
I am looking forward to watching Tiger again. I rarely watch golf, I am one of the few who tune in basically at the last minute hoping to watch Tiger sink the putt in for the win. I watch his highlight reels because they are just so amazing but golf is far too slow to hold my interest. I also prefer contact sports, such as football and MMA.
