Detroit Lions vs. Atlanta Falcons in the 2009 preseason game. The Detroit Lions will host the Atlanta Falcons at Ford Field in Detroit at 4PM EST today. Daunte Culpepper will be the starting quarterback for the preseason game with the first draft pick quarterback Matthew Stafford expected in the second quarter.
The Detroit Lions had a total shut out last season. Michiganders have high hopes that this is the year for the big turn around for the Lions team. This year the Lions have a new head coach Jim Schwartz. The 2009 NFL Draft, Quarterback Matthew Stafford has a huge burden to carry for this Lions team that has had a real struggle the past several years. The head coach Jim Schwartz hopefully can be the one to really rally this team.
Since I am a Michigander myself I know how important for the Detroit Lions and the state of Michigan really needs some wins. It was a tough year last year watching an NFL team such as the Detroit Lions go down in flames. Hopefully some of the major bugs can finally be worked out with this team. In my opinion things could not get any worse.
The Atlanta Falcons will be playing each of their 4 quarterbacks in each of the 4 quarters. This is just a practice for the Falcons as they did quite well last season. They are not so concerned about winning this scrimmage as they are about working out the bugs in their line up.
This is the first preseason trip to Detroit for the Falcons since 1998. The Atlanta Falcons have a 2-1 preseason victory with the Detroit Lions. The Falcons have only played the Lions 3 time in all.
The Detroit Lions preseasons schedule is as follows:
Week 1 – August 13-17 ATLANTA FALCONS Ford Field
Week 2 – August 20-24 Cleveland Browns Cleveland Browns Stadium
Week 3 – August 27-31 INDIANAPOLIS COLTS Ford Field
Week 4 – September 3-4 Buffalo Bills Ralph Wilson Stadium
The Detroit Lions have every advantage to win over the Atlanta Falcons. Will they do it? I know the game will be on our TV and my die hard Lions fan of a husband will be tuned into this game and every Lions game during the NFL regular season. We are eternal optimists as far as the Detroit Lions go and we will follow all their games.
