PGA Championship 2009 looks set to be a most interesting event this year as the general consensus appears to have swayed concerning a likely victor for this years tournament. Normally the name Tiger Woods would be quoted as the untouchable probable champion and most folks would take it for granted that this would probably be the outcome but this year brings an interesting wind of change. PGA Championship 2009 sees Padraig Harrington the Irishman take equal prominence in the pre-competition hullabaloo and viewers are beginning to doubt Tiger Woods as a given trophy holder.
Harrington, who has been building up quite a reputation for himself over the last decade showed his true colors as soon as he arrived on the professional scene but roller-coasted for the first few years and gave the impression of being hit and miss. Those days are long gone and PGA Championship 2009 looks set to finally shower Padraig Harrington with the recognition he has earned. There are flash in the pan athletes and there are those who consistently prove themselves as possible legends and Padraig Harrington definitely belongs in the latter category. Remaining humble, Harrington seems to consider the fact that he may partner with Tiger Woods to be a great honor in itself but true to form understated his ability to keep the crown again this time around.
If PGA Championship 2009 lives up to the expectations of the public then this year could be an exciting event with many surprises in store for avid golf spectators. Having said that, Tiger Woods still remains the hot favorite among his loyal fans and taking the title from the “God Of Golf” could prove too great challenge for the Irish golfer.
This years PGA Championship could also be sprinkled with heavy showers which would offer Padraig Harrington a distinct advantage since he is used to the unpredictable weather conditions of playing British golf courses. Whatever mother nature brings it will not spoil PGA Championship 2009 because the fans are salivating in anticipation in advance of this weekends tournament. Come hail, rain or snow this is a PGA Championship not to be missed.
And who knows, maybe Padraig Harrington will indeed deny Tiger Woods his crown and the luck of the Irish will indeed win the day. But from the view point of the Harrington fans, this fully developed powerhouse doesn’t need any luck as his high level of skill alone is enough to pull the mat from under Tiger Woods feet.
Whatever the outcome, we are in for a real nail biter and if you can’t travel to this match or even if you are not a Golf fan I recommend grabbing a beer, putting up your feet and treating yourself to one heck of viewing experience that is going to change what you thought about this ancient, noble sport.
The fun started yesterday and saw Tiger Woods take the lead by one shot, but as we all know, what happens on the first day of any PGA Championship is no reflection of what the final will bring. I have my fingers crossed for Padraig Harrington.
