Cisky Terrier? Nope, the breed is actually the Cesky Terrier. It is pronounced “ches-kee” in case you were wondering. I’m not sure what happened that has everyone searching for information on this rare breed of dog but everyone seems to be typoing the breed name. I am a huge fan of Terrier dogs. They are amazing pets so I thought that I would write an article to make sure this wonderful breed can capitalize on its sudden fame. I happen to be owned by an adorable toy terrier. His name is Ovid and I love him to death. I’ll do anything I can to help more Terriers find loving homes. Be sure to check your local animal shelter if you are in the market to adopt a pet.
Cesky Terriers are a rare breed but I saw a list stating they were the rarest breed in the world. Technically I don’t think it is really possible to make that claim, unless you are sticking by the typo and calling the breed a Cisky Terrier. Then heck yeah that IS a rare breed, non-existent even. The Cesky Terrier is listed as one of the six rarest breeds of dogs in the world. They tend to be quieter and less active than other types of terrier dogs, which may or may not be more appealing to you if you are considering getting one as a pet. Be sure to read the special grooming tips or requirements for this breed.
The Cesky Terrier was created in 1948 by Czech breeder FrantiÅ¡ek Horák when he cross bred a Sealyham Terrier and a Scottish Terrier in an effort to create a terrier suitable for hunting in the forests of Bohemia. That’s right, the Cesky may not look like a hunting dog with its short legs and long face but that was its purpose. Keep that in mind when deciding on whether or not to get one as a pet. Terriers have natural hunting instincts so if you have a hamster that gets out of its cage you probably don’t want any type of terrier dog in your house, they will instinctively chase and kill small rodents.
If you have a mouse problem and don’t want a cat then a terrier dog may be the perfect natural solution to getting rid of the mice without poison. My terrier is fairly mellow now that he is 13 years old but he still chases and digs like mad if a chipmunk, squirrel or rabbit catches his eye. He doesn’t catch nearly as many as he use to but just having him around keeps the mice out of my pantry. He is worth his weight in daily kibble just for that but the fact that he is curled up right beside me as a I write this is the reason I would do anything for him. If you get a terrier dog as a pet I am sure you will feel the same way about yours.
On a sad note I lost my pet dog Homer early Monday morning. He was not yet a year old but I feel his loss deeply. Humans get attached to their pets. I am thankful that he went quickly and did not suffer. He will live forever in my heart. I am certain all pet owners can relate.

Cute doggie!
