“St. Elmo’s Fire”, ABC’s hopeful for this years hit TV series to replace “Friends”. “St. Elmo’s Fire” will be a more dramatic comedy of the hit series “Friends”. ABC felt this was the perfect time to bring back an hour long brat pack series about friends.
“St. Elmo’s Fire” was a hit movie in 1985. The brat pack was graduating students from Georgetown University, who created a lasting bond after college graduation. The main characters were Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, and Mare Winningham. The movie chronicled the experiences of these grads learning their way to adulthood and forming a close bond that represented a surrogate family.
The TV series will also take place at Georgetown and St. Elmo’s Bar & Restaurant which has been rename St. Elmo’s Bar & Grill. The cast of 6 (3 guys and 3 gals) has yet to be announced.
“St. Elmo’s Fire” may be a big hit with those who remember the movie and loved it but will it also become a favorite to the younger crowd.
“Friends” has already been done. The same setup with 3 guys and 3 gals. ABC is fine with this. ABC feels this has more drama than the “Friends” series and believes now is the right time to bring back this type of genre with “St. Elmo’s Fire”.
Hopefully this “St. Elmo’s Fire” will not take place in the 80’s. We have had enough of the 80’s nostalgia. I would definitely watch the movie again because it was that good, but I definitely would not want to watch a weekly hour long series on the eighties again.
I am almost certain “St. Elmo’s Fire” will start out fairly strong just from the popularity of the movie “St. Elmo’s Fire”. But will its following hold and will ABC be able to gain enough of a new following to make this widely popular with all audiences? I guess it all depends on how this new series is presented. It will be fun to see.
“St. Elmo’s Fire” will you become just a remake of “Friends” or will you have enough originality to become ABC’s most popular TV series for its new season? From the comments I have read so far their are a lot of mixed feelings on the remake of “St. Elmo’s Fire”. If this is the best original idea (?) ABC has to offer, I guess it beats another reality TV show.
