The We Are Marshall movie is a tribute to the Marshall University Plane Crash that occurred in November 1970. There are a number of well-known actors in the Marshall University Plane Crash Movie who play the coaching staff, players and family in the aftermath of this tragic incident. If you are wanting a moving story that has a good story line and quality acting, then the We Are Marshall movie is one to watch.

You will find though that this movie on the different happenings at Marshall University moves fairly quickly through the different characters lives and Matthew McConaughey, one of my favourite actors, performs a good roll as the new team coach (Jack Lengyel) for the Marshall University football team, helping to pull together the two remaining team players who didn’t go on the plane, and the rest of the university community – an interesting aspect that he is an out-of-towner. In any university, sport is at the centre of a lot of the social aspects and involvement by many students, so the shock for everyone of losing so many people, back in 1970, must have been something that had a deep impact on the students and faculty at Marshall University.

The good aspects of this movie are that it depicts the important parts of a lot of people’s lives, not to mention Matthew Fox’s character, who plays Jack in the series Lost, is the assistant coach Red Dawson. The movie follows Red and how he is coping with the death of a number of his colleagues and friends, and how he works with McConaughey to develop the team to become a fighting fit football team ready to defend Marshall University’s honour and beat any opposing teams.

There are a number of scenes, as there are with any movie, that could have been brightened up a little from the dreariness they are iumposing on the viewer, but, as is will all movies that are directed towards horrific accidents, the We Are Marshall movie is bound to have them. Just, it seems as though it would have been a better movie if there were more slightly commical/moving moments, such as the one when the Dean, played by the legendary David Strathairn, went to the football board to ensure the Marshall University football team were allowed into the league to play other. It brings home that the key aspect of the story was about people changing and moving on from some of the events that happen in our lives and cause so much disruption.

The We Are Marshall movie, which covers the aftermath of the Marshall University Plane Crash of 1970, isn’t going to be an action packed movie to watch on a Saturday night; but, if you want to watch a movie with some quality actors and acting in, then you should go and rent the movie from your local store. It isn’t a one you seen – you’ve seen them all – type of movie, as the writers and director have brought a sense of meaning to the University plane crash of November 1970 that took 75 people and left the town distraught. Entertaining and worth a look.
